Connection time-outs during up- and downloads

Incident Report for MediaLab

Resolved

The upstream network provider has corrected the routing issue, and traffic between our data centers is flowing over its normal path again. Response times are back to normal, and we have removed the temporary rerouting. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Monitoring

We identified increased latency and intermittent timeouts affecting part of our platform. The cause is a routing problem at one of our upstream network providers, which sent traffic between two of our data centers over a much longer international path than normal. We have rerouted the affected traffic, and response times are back to normal levels. We are monitoring the situation and working with the provider on a permanent fix.

Identified

We have found the cause of the increased timeouts during uploads and downloads to our AMS-01 processing facility. An upstream network provider is sending traffic between AMS-01 and some of our cloud services over a much longer route than normal, which causes high latency and occasional connection drops.

We have escalated this to the network provider and asked them to restore the normal route. Meanwhile, we are preparing an alternative network path on our side to reduce the impact.

The workaround still applies: if you are affected, select "Smart routing" under "Upload acceleration" to avoid the problem.

We will post another update when the alternative path is live or the provider has fixed the routing.

Investigating

We are investigating increased time-outs during up- and downloads to our AMS-01 processing facility. As an immediate work-around for affected users, we recommend to pick "Smart routing" under "Upload acceleration" to bypass this problem while we investigate further.
